Description
38 St Nicholas Street is an early 19th-century house located in Carlisle. It features Flemish bond brickwork on a chamfered plinth, with all dressings made of painted stone. The building has V-jointed quoins, a sill band, and a stone-bracketed metal gutter. The roof is made of graduated greenslate and has original end brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high with three bays and has a central entry stair, making it a double-depth house. The central entrance includes a panelled door and an overlight set within a stone architrave that has a console bracket hood. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, also framed in stone architraves. The interior has not been inspected. Historical records indicate that this house belonged to William Brown and was advertised for sale in the Carlisle Journal on 3 November 1821, suggesting this may be that property.
