Description

This is a mid-18th century building located on Castlegate, originally constructed as the house of the Earl of Wyndham and now divided into two separate properties at numbers 5 and 7. The building is two storeys high and has a cement-rendered exterior with a slate roof. It features a double shop front with original bow windows incorporating glazing bars. The upper floors contain seven 12-paned sash windows on each level. The interior is said to include a fine oak staircase. A rear wing extends from the southwest side of an internal courtyard. The building forms a group with numbers 2 to 10 (even) and 1 to 13 (odd) on Castlegate, along with numbers 14 to 28 (even) and 30 and 30A on Market Place.
