Description

The observatory south of Tarn Bank is an early 19th-century structure built from calciferous sandstone ashlar. It features a dentilled eaves cornice and is set on a rusticated plinth. The building has a lead domed cupola that is mounted on wheels for turning. It is a single-storey, circular plan with two bays and includes a rectangular porch. The entrance has a plain boarded door framed by a pilastered surround, and there are tall, narrow round-arched windows. This observatory has group value with Tarn Bank.
