Description
Nos 1 and 3 Castlegate is an 18th-century building featuring scored stucco and a new pantiled roof, with old brick chimneys. It stands three storeys tall and has a moulded doorway with a cornice supported by scroll brackets. There are two shop fronts, with No 3 displaying round arched glazing bars and a Greek Key cornice. Each upper floor has five sash windows; the first floor windows have vertical glazing set in moulded architraves, while the top floor features six-paned sashes with sills. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 10 (even) and Nos 1 to 13 (odd), as well as Nos 14 to 28 (even) and Nos 30 and 30A Market Place.
