Description
The Corby Bridge Inn is an inn built in 1838 for Mr. T Wannop. It features stucco walls, stone quoins, a graduated hipped slate roof, and brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance includes a four-panelled door with a plain pilastered surround. The sash windows, which have glazing bars and plain surrounds, are fitted with external 20th-century louvred shutters on the ground floor. Notable architectural details include a chamfered plinth course and raised quoins. The inn has identical facades facing both the road and the railway. It is located close to the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway and was described as a new and commodious inn in Scott's Railway Companion in 1838. The inn was taken over by the Central Control Board in 1916 and returned to private ownership in 1973.
