Description
Prior Rigg is an early 18th-century farmhouse constructed with dressed red sandstone walls, although the render is falling off. It features a stone-slate roof with coped gables and kneelers, along with brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has six bays. The entrance is highlighted by a moulded surround and entablature with a moulded cornice, leading to a six-panel door. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are framed by chamfered stone surrounds; many of these windows have been filled in. The farmhouse would have originally had ten bays. To the right of the entrance, there are small cellar windows with chamfered surrounds and iron bars. The west gable is made of sandstone, while the east gable and rear wall are constructed of brick with stone quoins. The listing does not include other farm buildings. At the time of the survey, the property was empty and in a dilapidated state.
