Description
High Bridge is a road bridge from the early 19th century, with the designer unknown. It is constructed of local red sandstone and features a single arch that supports a single track, creating a hump-backed carriageway. The arch is segmental and consists of a single arch ring, which is topped by a string course. A second string course indicates the base of the parapet and shows a change in the stonework, with ashlar below and snecked stone above. The parapet is finished with chamfered coping. This bridge is a good example of an unwidened early 19th century style road bridge.
