Description

The listed building comprises a garden gate, associated piers, and a boundary wall situated immediately north of the 18th-century wing of High Head Castle. Constructed between 1744 and 1747, the structure is primarily built of red sandstone ashlar, featuring calciferous sandstone dressings. The central gate piers are square and rusticated, exhibiting paired engaged fluted columns on the front and pilastered niches to the rear, all surmounted by shaped caps. Low flanking walls are present, finished with moulded flat coping, and terminate at either side in further rusticated square piers. The winged figures that originally topped the central piers have been relocated.
