Description

9A Coates Lane is a large square building located at the southwest corner of the lane, at the junction with Queen Street. Built in 1814, it was originally the Old Whitehaven Bank. The structure is made of stone and features quoins, standing two storeys tall. The facade includes a Tuscan doorway with a cornice and pediment, along with four windows on the ground floor and five on the upper floor, all set within moulded architraves. There are two cornice strings between the storeys, with the upper one serving as the sills for the upper windows. The facade facing Queen Street has four similar windows on each floor. Additionally, there is a small square wing at the west end that has another doorway (numbered 10), which also features a moulded architrave and a pediment supported by console brackets.
