Stubsgill Farmhouse, Area Wall and Gate Piers, and Byre Adjoining to South West

Stubsgill Farmhouse, along with its area wall, gate piers, and adjoining byre to the southwest, is a house that features several datestones: M I 1681 on the rear cross-passage door, MCI (or T, or J) 1712 on the main door to the left at the front, and J.P. 1846 on the front cross-passage door on the extreme right. A fourth datestone from 1692, mentioned in a previous list, has not been located. The building has undergone later additions and alterations and is constructed of pebble-dashed rubble with a graduated slate roof that includes an outshut to the rear. It has two brick chimneys, one in the middle and one at the end. The farmhouse is two storeys high with seven bays. The panelled main door is flanked by two windows on each floor. The plank cross-passage door has a single window to its left and two above it. All windows have 20th-century double-glazing set in late 18th-century or early 19th-century stone surrounds, with the two windows on the ground floor to the left having lower sills. The area wall is made of snecked rubble with flat coping and stands approximately four feet high. The rusticated gate piers opposite the main door are square in plan and topped with corniced caps.

The lower byre range, likely from the 17th century, has also seen later additions and alterations. It is built of slobbered rubble with quoins and chamfered eaves, topped with a graduated slate roof. This structure is two storeys high, originally possibly three, and has four bays. There is a door on each floor, and a 20th-century lean-to with a door above it on the right. To the left, there is a part-blocked door with two blocked windows above it, which were originally mullioned and transomed, and two blocked mullioned two-light windows under the eaves.
