Description
Kirklinton Park is a house built in 1822 for Hugh Patrickson, with alterations made in the late 19th century. The building features dressed red sandstone walls set on a chamfered plinth, with raised quoins, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. It has a slate roof with lead hips and yellow brick chimney stacks. The house is 2½ storeys tall and has five bays. The original round arched entrance has been filled in and now features a pilaster strip door surround with a console bracketed cornice, along with side lights and a fanlight that includes glazing bars and a panelled door. The sash windows, which also have glazing bars, are framed by moulded stone surrounds. There is a large hipped dormer above the eaves, flanked by smaller dormers, all containing casements with glazing bars. Inside, there is a semicircular cantilever staircase, and each window is fitted with panelled shutters. According to the East Cumberland Directory from 1884, the house had been recently improved by the owner.
