Description
Braystones Tower is a memorial tower built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee and later became a First World War memorial in 1920. It is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble, featuring roughly dressed quoins and tooled dressings. The tower has three stages, a battlemented parapet that is slightly corbelled, and a corner turret. Each elevation has a doorway and one window per floor, all under dropped labels. An original commemorative tablet lists the names of local dignitaries present at its unveiling in June 1897, while another tablet honors the men of Braystone who served in the Great War. Braystones Tower is a prominent landmark visible from the surrounding countryside and the sea.
