Description

Moorhouse Hall is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It features painted stucco on a chamfered plinth, with raised painted quoins, a string course, a moulded cornice, and a parapet topped with a triangular pediment and semi-circular antefixae. The roof is made of graduated greenslate and has brick chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and five bays.

The entrance consists of three-panel double doors with a radial fanlight set in a round arch that includes a false keystone, flanked by sidelights within a pilaster strip surround. The central bay projects and has raised painted quoins, with a Venetian window above the entrance that leads to a wrought-iron balcony via a French door. The sash windows are fitted with glazing bars and are set in moulded stone architraves that also feature false keystones. Extensions and outbuildings associated with the property are not of interest.

Moorhouse Hall is marked on Hodgskinson & Donald's map of Cumberland, which was surveyed in 1770, as the house of Joseph Liddle.
