Description
Holmehead is a farmhouse that was formerly a bastle or stonehouse, likely built in the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a 19th-century extension and alterations. The building features extremely thick whitewashed stone rubble walls and a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof, along with brick chimney stacks. It has two storeys and three bays, with a set-back L-shaped bay extension under a common roof. The ground floor includes a plank door in a chamfered surround and blocked entrance above, along with sash windows that have glazing bars. The upper floor features three-pane sashes and a central gabled dormer casement window, all set in plain painted stone surrounds from the 19th century. There is a blocked original upper window on the left side and a small square blocked original window on the end wall. The rear wall is obscured by the extension, which has two-pane sash windows in plain stone surrounds. Outbuildings are excluded from this listing.
