Description
The front building of the Manfield Shoe Factory, built in 1890 by Charles Dorman, is one of the first factories in England designed to operate on a single floor. It features a Jacobean style, constructed from stone-dressed red brick, topped with a Westmorland slate roof and stone-coped gables. The central section, which projects, has three gables with stone finials, while each of the recessed single-storey wings also has three gables. The building includes stone mullioned and transomed casement windows, with eleven windows in the center and seven in each wing. The central entrance is accessed via stone steps and has a recessed elliptically arched porch beneath an oriel bay window.
