Description
The Courteenhall war memorial and bench, unveiled in 1920, are dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. The stone war memorial features a rectangular-plan Celtic cross that stands on a three-stepped hexagonal-plan base. The front (east) elevation of the cross is inscribed with the words: ‘TO THE MEN OF / COURTEENHALL / WHO DIED FOR / ENGLAND / 1914 - 1918’, along with the names of 13 local residents who lost their lives during the conflict. A plain curved stone bench, likely built at the same time as the memorial, is positioned between the memorial and the Northampton Road (A508).
The memorial and bench are located directly opposite the main entrance from the Northampton Road to the Courteenhall estate, which includes Courteenhall House, a listed building at grade II*, along with its historic parkland and gardens, which are registered at grade II.
