Description

George Row is a row of cottages that were formerly almshouses, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared limestone and feature an interlocking tile roof, along with stone end and ridge stacks. They are two stories high and consist of a six-window range with one- and two-unit plans. The panelled doors have chamfered stone surrounds, leading to 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows on both the ground and first floors. The buildings also have quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams. It is noted that these cottages were formerly used as almshouses.
