Description
The Laundry Building is a late 17th century to early 18th century structure that has been altered over time and is currently used as offices. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a pantile roof with stone end and ridge stacks. The building is two stories high and has a six-window range. There is a 20th-century door to the right of the center, which has a wooden lintel, and a panelled door at the far right with a moulded stone surround. The windows are irregularly arranged, including two- and three-light windows, as well as a large 16-pane sash window located to the ground floor left of center. The first floor shows signs of at least six blocked windows. The left angle of the building has ironstone quoins, and the gables are stone-coped with kneelers. There are indications of a blocked door to the left of center, with a wooden lintel still in place. A single-storey extension is present at the rear. An estate map from 1760 indicates that the building was once connected to a stable block by a range that has since been demolished, which ran behind the current Estate Office and was part of a formal arrangement facing the west range of Castle Ashby. The building is included for its group value.
