Description
The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly a rectory, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built from coursed limestone rubble and features an artificial stone slate roof, along with stone and brick stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, comprising five bays.
The garden front, which has double gables, includes a 19th-century Gothic window with a trefoil head at the center of the ground floor. To the left, there is a 19th-century bay window topped with a castellated parapet. On the right, there are two windows with stone lintels and 19th-century plate glass sashes. The first floor mirrors this arrangement with similar windows. The attic features windows with stone lintels and six-pane sashes. The gable ends are coped and include kneelers, while the left side has 19th-century windows, two of which have stone hoods. The right side also has 19th-century windows.
The rear elevation is irregular and has three gables, with a 20th-century doorway. The first floor and attic contain 17th-century three-light stone mullioned windows. The interior has not been inspected. A wing added in the 19th century by Sir George Gilbert Scott, designed in the Decorated Gothic style, was demolished around 1975.
