Description
No. 16 Glovers Lane is a house dating from the late 17th century, which was remodelled in the 20th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and has a slate roof with flanking brick stacks. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring two bays. There is a 20th-century extension across the right bay, which is one storey high and has an entrance on the left side with a wooden lintel and a plank door. To the left of the entrance, there is a two-light stone mullioned window with a square hood. On the first floor, there are two additional two-light stone mullioned windows. The house also has 20th-century timber dormers. On the right side, there are three small one-light windows on the ground floor, and a similar window is found in the left bay of the attic. The main entrance was originally located at the rear of the house.
Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with three small windows and a bread oven, as well as stop-chamfered beams. The staircase was added in the 20th century. The house was described by R.B. Wood-Jones as Pear Tree Cottage in his book "Traditional Domestic Architecture in the Banbury Region."
