Description
26 and 28 Back Lane are an unusual and distinguished pair of early 19th century Neoclassical houses. They are constructed of stucco with a Welsh slated roof that is set behind a low parapet. The buildings are two storeys tall and feature a moulded band at the first floor level, along with an entablature at the eaves. There are four sash windows with glazing bars; the central pair of first floor windows is flanked by incised pilasters and topped with cornices on consoles. Each ground floor doorway, located at either end, has a porch in antis supported by Greek Doric columns. The doorways have three-quarter glazed doors beneath rectangular fanlights with arched glazing patterns. The north front includes a trellis verandah along the ground floors of both houses.
