Description

This is an early 19th century building on the south side of Market Place, originally constructed as two separate buildings. The building at number 7 has a tiled roof. It is three storeys high and features a sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor has a decorative frieze and cornice above two doorways and a three-light shop window, with glazing bars to the outer lights. The doorways have panelled pilasters and rectangular fanlights with geometrical glazing bars. The building at number 8 also has a tiled roof, formerly slated. It is three storeys high and has three sash windows with glazing bars; the central windows on the upper floors are dummy windows. The entrance is through a six-fielded panelled door with an oblong fanlight featuring geometrical glazing bars, set within a panelled reveal. The slim, panelled door surround matches that of the building at number 7, and the decorative frieze and cornice extend continuously between the two buildings. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
