Description
The Abbey Building, located on the east side of Market Place, is a former National School that has been converted into a restaurant. It was originally constructed in 1826, with additions made in 1870. The building stands on the site of a medieval priory, which was illustrated in the Gentleman's Magazine in November 1826. The structure features coursed squared rubble and a tiled roof with kneelers and stone coping on two gables. It is two storeys high with a slight central projection on the left. The façade includes a pattern of windows: one wide casement, three-light windows under dripmoulds on the ground floor, and two similar windows along with two pointed arched windows with dripmoulds and tracery on the first floor. There is also a left central pointed arched footway.
