Description
The Rectory is a house dating from 1678, with alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a slate roof and brick stacks, arranged in a U-plan. The house is two storeys and an attic, with five bays on the front facade. The front of the building is symmetrical, featuring projecting gables at each end. A central doorway is topped by a square stone hood and contains a 19th-century double door, partly glazed. There are 18th-century casement windows of two lights with wooden lintels on either side of the doorway, and three similar windows on the first floor, all sheltered by a continuous 17th-century stone hood. A date plaque reading "1678" is positioned above the central window. A dormer window with a coped gable set on kneelers is topped with pinnacles and contains a two-light wooden casement window with a square stone hood. The side wings each have early 19th-century sixteen-pane sash windows on the ground floor and three-light wooden casements with 17th-century stone hoods on the first floor and in the attic. The gables on the side wings have coping and kneelers with pinnacles. A 17th-century gabled porch at the rear has a doorway with a square stone hood and a two-light wooden casement window above it, also with a square stone hood. The interior has been remodelled in the 19th century, but retains a 17th-century staircase with flat balusters.
