Description
No 23 High Street is a barn that was converted into a house in 1984. The building is made of coursed and squared ironstone with limestone dressings and features a 20th-century slate roof. It has coped gables with kneelers and finials, and a single late 20th-century brick chimney. The structure is two stories tall and consists of three bays in a single range.
The northwest side has a central blocked barn door, with a 20th-century door and a casement window under a common lintel. To the left, there are two casement windows, and beyond that, there is a lean-to stone porch with a curved wall. The west gable, which faces the street, features a five-light casement window with a wooden lintel, and above it, there is a four-light casement window. Both of these windows have drip moulds. The south side has three casement windows, and to the right, there is a single-storey 20th-century addition.
Inside, the building retains an early 17th-century single purlin principal rafter roof with cambered tie-beams. During the mid-20th century, this building was used as a county council garage. It is included in the register for its group value.
