Description
2 and 4 High Street are lodgings for farmworkers that have been converted into two dwellings. The building is dated 1849, although it may have an earlier origin, as the quoins are much more weathered than the window dressings. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ironstone dressings and features a thatched roof with coped gables and rendered lateral stacks at the rear. The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays.
There is a central gabled porch with a boarded door, flanked by two pairs of lancet windows with transoms on either side. The first floor has three similar pairs of lancets, each situated below an eyebrow in thatch that contains a diamond-shaped ironstone panel, with the central panel dated A.D. 1849. Rectangular windows are placed between gudgeon-hung iron casements. The right gable end features two lancets, a spherical triangle window, and a two-light mullioned window, while the left gable end has similar details. The entrance to No. 2 is located in a 20th-century flat-roofed wing at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
