Description
Carey House is an 18th-century building made of Northamptonshire sandstone, which has been refaced with stucco. It features a Collyweston slate roof with three hipped dormers situated behind a parapet and cornice. The house has two storeys and attics, with a first-floor band. There are seven sash windows that include glazing bars and keystones. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door and a fanlight with glazing bars, framed by Doric half columns, entablatures, and an open pediment. The building has a plinth and three stone chimney stacks with mouldings. Inside, some original panelling remains, along with 18th-century chimneypieces and a staircase from the late 18th or early 19th century. A plaque on the building commemorates that the Baptist Missionary Society was founded here in 1792 by William Carey of Leicester.
