Description
No. 48 Hill Street is a house dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a concrete tile roof. The building features a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. To the left, there is a two-storey gabled porch that contains a 20th-century door with a 17th-century four-centred arch head. The porch also has a two-light stone mullion window with a hood mould and original leaded light on the first floor. The central first-floor window is a three-light stone mullion, while there is a single-light window to the far right, both with stone surrounds. On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century casements with wood lintels, and a blocked arch-head fire window to the left of centre. The porch displays a large armorial plaque with a cornice at its apex. The house has a central brick and stone stack and a brick stack at the end. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have spine beams. This house was once known as Gage Manor House.
