Description
The gate arch, walls, and balustrade attached to the southwest of Lilford Hall were built in the mid-19th century by W.G. Habershon of St. Neots. Constructed from limestone ashlar, the gate arch is designed in the Jacobean style and features an arch-head opening flanked by columns that support an entablature with a bracketed cornice. Above the arch is a decorative device with scrolls and a finial. The flanking walls are rusticated and include an open arched parapet. The balustrade, which is attached at a right angle to the left of the gate arch, has similar rusticated square piers, some topped with ball finials. This gate arch is part of a forecourt that includes additional features such as seat niche walls, a balustrade, and terrace walls located southeast of Lilford Hall. The balustrade is approximately 30 meters south of the hall, while the gates, gateways, balustrade, and seat are situated about 50 meters to the northeast, east, and south of Lilford Hall.
