Description

Cottesmore, part of Oundle School, is a building dating from the early to mid-19th century, with significant later alterations. It is constructed of small coursed rubble, with an ashlar front and coursed rubble to the sides. The roof is covered with Welsh slate. Originally containing four windows, the front now features modern gabled dormers on the top floor and two modern canted three-light bays on the ground floor, all with hung sash windows and glazing bars. Two modern doorways are set within wood surrounds, featuring plain pilasters, four-panel doors, and three-light rectangular fanlights. A section set back on the right-hand side has one window on three storeys, also with hung sash windows and glazing bars. Architectural details include the remnants of a band between storeys, incised keystones, and a plinth which is interrupted by a basement where five courses have been renewed. A side door leads into the building. It is included as part of a group with Nos. 63 to 75 (odd) on West Street.
