Description
The Village Stores is a row of three houses and a shop, built in 1858 for the Rockingham Castle estate. The structure features squared, coursed, and banded limestone and ironstone, topped with a slate roof. It has an original two-unit terrace plan and stands two storeys high. The front includes a four-window range of casements with glazing bars, which are set under shallow stone arches; the first-floor windows are located in eaves dormers. To the right, a bay breaks forward as a gabled cross wing, which also displays the datestone. There are 19th-century ribbed doors between the window ranges, all with lattice porches. The building has stone stacks with octagonal brick flues at the ridge and end. The right elevation features a lattice porch at the entrance to the shop. The interiors have not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
