Description
Mill Cottage, Mill House, and Mill Tearoom are now a mill house divided into two dwellings and a tearoom. The datestone indicates a construction date of 1729, with evidence of earlier building and 19th-century alterations. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. Originally, it likely had a three-unit plan but has been altered to a U-shape. The building stands two stories high, with an irregular three-window arrangement on the first floor and a five-window arrangement on the ground floor. The 19th-century sash windows are set beneath wooden lintels. To the left of the center, there is a 19th-century ashlar porch with a flat roof and a four-panel, part-glazed door. The building has 19th-century yellow brick stacks at the ridge and end. There are signs of some blocked openings on the front elevation and indications of an earlier roof level on the left gable end. The rear elevation mirrors the front, with irregular projecting wings on both sides and a five-window range of 19th-century sash windows under wooden lintels. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have been remodeled in the 19th century.
