Description

A school and attached house, dating from 1717/25 and altered in the mid-19th century, now serving as a village hall and house. The building is constructed of regular coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. The house and school form an L-shaped range, with the school being single-storey and the house two-storey. The main front has a three-window range, with a further two-window range to the right which was originally the school. This section features 19th-century three-light stone mullion windows. The one-window range to the left is the house, with casement windows and wooden lintels. A two-panel door, situated to the left of centre, has an 18th-century moulded stone surround with a plain entablature and cornice. A central stone stack has been rebuilt at the top with brick. An armorial device is positioned above the door. The elevation to Main Road, on the left side, has a three-window range with a gable to the right and two gabled eaves dormers to the left. A stone stack at the ridge has been rebuilt in brick. A 19th-century extension is located at the rear of the former school. The interior has not been inspected. The building was formerly known as the Greencoat School.
