Description

The Manor House is a large house, likely originating in the 17th century, with a datestone of 1653, but probably with earlier origins. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and has plain tile roofs – modern at the front, and 19th century at the rear, with coped gables and moulded stone ridge and end stacks. The house comprises two distinct builds. The left-hand block, likely the earlier part, is single storey and attic with a projecting gable to the right. The ground floor has a three-light window with ovolo-moulding and a cornice. A 19th century gabled dormer above contains a two-light mullioned window matching the style below. The projecting gable has a four-light ovolo-moulded window with a king mullion and cornice to the ground floor, and a similar two-light window above. The right-hand block is two storeys and attic, and three bays, with the third bay being a projecting gable. The entrance in the first bay is a four-centred arch with a 19th century board door, above which is a three-light mullioned window. The second bay has a two-light mullioned window to both the ground and first floors. The projecting gable window on the ground floor is a four-light mullioned window with a king mullion, and there is a similar window on the first floor. The attic window is a three-light mullioned window with a central stepped light, and incorporates a diamond-shaped date stone in the gable. Most windows are iron-framed and have gudgeon-hung casements.
