Description

Orchard Cottage comprises two cottages dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a thatched roof, and features brick ridge and end stacks. It is one storey and attic in height, with a four-bay facade. Number 39 has a three-window range; a 20th-century door is located between the first and second bays, and a window is blocked between the second and third bays. There are three-light casement windows with wooden lintels, and eyebrow dormers light the attic. A wall-tie end in the fourth bay constitutes part of Number 40, which also has a three-light casement window with a wooden lintel to the ground floor, and an attic window. A gabled rear wing belonging to Number 40 contains 20th-century openings. The interiors were not inspected.
