Description

The Science Building of Oundle School, built in 1914, is designed in the Tudor style by A C Blomfield. This two-storey structure is constructed from coursed stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. It has verge, apex, and end finials. The building has two gabled wings flanking a central section, which includes a moulded gable adorned with a mullion and transom window consisting of ten lights on each storey. Dripmoulds are present above the window strings.

There are two four-centred doorways located under porches that rise two storeys, with parapets on either side. These doorways feature three-light fanlights, stone mullions, and are topped with three-light mullion windows. The wings contain two single-light windows above six-light mullion and transom windows. On the ground floor, there are two windows with two lights, featuring only transoms, flanking one window with six lights. The strings continue above the heads of the windows, and a plinth is present at the base.

A central bell cupola with a leaded roof crowns the building. The elevation facing Milton Road showcases a range of four gables with finials; the two central gables have six-light windows, while the two end gables have four-light windows, all with mullions and transoms. The ground floor features six windows, and there are stone multi-flue chimney stacks. The Science Building and Yarrow House are part of a group.
