Description
The bridge over the River Ise, located on Queen Street in Geddington, dates from around 1250 and has undergone later repairs. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, coursed rubble, and squared stone, with the southernmost arch lined with blue brick. The bridge features four arches, three of which are pointed, and one round arch, the second from the south, which is inscribed with the year 1784. The upstream side has cutwaters, with the two northern ones featuring a moulded string that extends up as pedestrian refuges. The downstream side shows signs of rebuilding and retains a fragment of a string course above the second arch from the north, as well as the top of a blocked arch some distance south of the river. The bridge has a plain parapet with slightly cambered coping and long approaches from both the north and south. It is also designated as a scheduled ancient monument.
