Description

The Dukes Arms Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with alterations, located in Grafton Underwood. The date 1645 is recorded. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with some brickwork, and has a thatched roof. A moulded stone ridge stack sits at the centre, and there are stone and brick endstacks. The stack to the right is particularly notable, featuring brick shafts on a slightly projecting stone chimney with three set-offs and a diamond-shaped datestone in the upper part.

The building is two stories high. A lean-to addition to the left of centre has a 20th-century door and window set within brick infill. To the left of the lean-to is a single bay with a 20th-century ground floor window and a two-light eyebrow dormer above. To the right of the lean-to, the facade displays symmetrical arrangement: a central 20th-century door with ashlar jambs and a wooden lintel, flanked by three-light 20th-century casement windows on either side at ground floor level. The first floor mirrors the ground floor, with similar windows flanking a single-light window. All openings have flush stone surrounds, although the windows retain wooden lintels. A one-story gabled wing extends to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
