Description
Saint Peter's School, formerly known as "Sunnylands," was built in 1894 for William Timpson, the founder of a nationwide boot and shoe manufacturing and retailing firm. The architect was J A Gotch. The building is constructed of red brick with a gabled tiled roof and features stone dressings. It has three storeys, with moulded bands at the window head levels, a plinth, and a balustraded terrace on the east front that includes steps on the north and south sides. The windows are stone mullioned and transomed casement types. There are large chimneystacks with wedge-shaped vertical mouldings and corbelled caps. The stone front doorway is framed by an arch surrounded by Doric pilasters, topped with an enriched entablature that carries finials and strapwork.
