Description

This is a group of three houses located at 18, 20, and 22 Main Street, Ashley. They were built in 1866 by E.F. Law. The houses are constructed of squared coursed lias stone, with Collyweston slate roofs. The design is based on a two-unit plan for each house, together forming an H-shaped layout. The main facade has a four-window range featuring two- and three-light stone mullion windows with leaded diamond panes. Gabled bays project forward on either side. Dormers break the roofline above the central first-floor windows. A central gabled porch has an arch-headed opening. Details include ashlar gable parapets, kneelers, brick and stone stacks at the ridge, and a datestone on the porch. The side elevations are similarly designed, with three windows and two half-dormers, and central plank doors sheltered by bracketed hoods. The interiors have not been inspected.
