Description
Rose Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century and was altered in the mid-19th century, likely by Humphry Repton and John Addey Repton for George Freke Evans. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a simple double-depth plan, it has been modified to a T-shape.
The main front of the cottage has a two-window range of leaded casements set beneath shallow stone arches. A central gablet with barge boards contains a similar casement window. The entrance features a central plank door, also under a shallow stone arch, and is sheltered by a stone gabled porch. The roof is pyramid-shaped with a central stone chimney stack.
The side elevations on both the left and right of the main front are similar, each having a two-window range with one leaded casement and one blind window, along with central gablets that have barge boards and leaded casements. A mid-19th century rear wing is designed in a similar style, with a lower eaves level and a hipped roof at the back. The interior has not been inspected.
