Description

Talbot's Canal Lock 23, located on the Grand Union Canal, was built around 1800. It features brick retaining walls topped with stone coping. The lock has two pairs of gates equipped with sluices and winding gear, with the quoins dated 1863 and 1866. There are also two cast iron bollards and brick steps at the northern end. On one side, there is a pond with sluice and winding gear. To the south of the lock-keeper's cottage, there is a duck pond that was originally a side pond but has been altered too much to be included in the listing.
