Description

This is a mid-19th century lock-keeper’s house, situated at Lock 23 on the Grand Union Canal in Stoke Hammond. The house is built of white-washed render with a hipped slate roof and a brick chimney positioned between the right-hand bays. It has two storeys and a basement, with a three-bay front. The ground floor contains a pair of two-light casement windows on the left, a pair of three-light windows on the right, and a 20th-century porch positioned between the left-hand windows. The first floor has a two-light casement window to the right and a pair of two-light casements. A basement door and window are visible in the right-hand end wall, and a lean-to extension is attached to the rear. The building is listed for its group value.
