Description
The barn located to the southwest of Manor Farmhouse is a 15th-century structure. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, topped with an old tile roof that is hipped. The barn features six wide bays, two cart entries, and aisles. It has massive posts on low walls that are positioned at right angles to the main walls, which are tied to outer posts at the eaves level. The main posts are supported by sloping braces that extend from the aisle wall footings and are halved across the aisle tie beams to the ends of the main posts. There are also curved braces connecting the tie beams, wall plates, and purlins. The roof is a single purlin design with curved queen post trusses. The west wall has been rebuilt using concrete blocks. Additionally, there is a dairy bay attached to the east end of the barn, which dates from the 18th century and consists of two bays with an old tile roof. This barn was originally constructed as a manor tithe barn.
