Description

The Church of St Mary is a 13th-century church, enlarged in the 14th century, with a 15th-century south porch and tower. The tower features a prominent octagonal stair turret topped with spirelets. The church was restored and enlarged in 1890, at which point the exterior was refaced with knapped flint and ashlar limestone dressings. A 17th-century Drake chapel is located on the north side. The church contains a fine series of monuments ranging from 15th-century brasses to 17th, 18th, and 19th-century examples, including many sculptural pieces commemorating members of the Drake family.
