Description

Badminton House comprises a range of buildings dating from the 18th century, with a core of earlier construction visible in No. 10, the southern block. The facade of this southern block was redesigned in the late 18th century. It is constructed of brown brick with a hipped roof covered in old tiles, topped by a parapet and a grey brick cornice band. The building is two storeys high, with a first-floor band running along the elevation. There are three double-hung sash windows on the first floor, set within reveals with cills and flat arches. The side windows are tripartite, featuring wood mullions. A central door is accessed via a rectangular fanlight, with panelled reveals and an architrave surround featuring consoles with guttae and a corniced hood. A later, two-storey wing is attached on the left side; this section has a slate roof, eaves cornice, two sashes to the ground floor, and a large sash window above with a scalloped blind hood supported by brackets. A 19th-century addition extends from the south end. No. 3, the northern block, dates from the 18th century and is constructed of grey brick with red diapering dressings and quoins.
