Description
Alscot Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and 19th century. The structure features a timber frame with 17th-century brick infill on the right gable. The front and left gables have been rebuilt in brick, with the front ground floor made of mid-18th-century red and vitreous chequer brick, and the remainder in 19th-century brick. The roof is covered with 20th-century interlocking tiles, and there are chimneys with paired shafts of thin brick between the right bays and a 19th-century brick chimney on the front left.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with three bays and a lobby entry. It has wooden casements with single horizontal glazing bars, featuring three-light windows on the first floor and the left ground floor, and a four-light window on the right ground floor. The ground floor windows have gauged brick heads. A 20th-century gabled brick porch with a half-glazed door is located between the right bays, and there is a 19th-century lean-to at the rear.
Inside, the original rear wall and partitions display timber framing, and there are chamfered spine beams in the right bays and a stop-chamfered spine beam in the left bay. An old winder staircase aligns with the chimney, and the fireplace in the right bay features a shallow depressed arch made of chamfered brick.
