Description
The Gables is a 17th-century office building that was altered in the mid-20th century. The side walls and part of the rear are exposed timber frame, with brick infill, some of which includes thin 17th-century brick. The front was rebuilt in brick around 1950, featuring dentil ornament around the gables. The building has an old tile roof with a central chimney made of thin brick, which has grouped shafts and pilasters on the sides. It is two storeys high with an attic and has two gabled bays. The windows are 20th-century leaded casements, with three-light windows on the main floors and two-light windows in the attic. There is a single light window in the center of the first floor, surrounded by patterned brick and a herringbone panel below. More single light windows flank the central 20th-century door. The roof extends to the right over a former cart entry, which has a timber-framed right wall and remnants of a gabled dormer. The rear features a small central gable with a staircase window and later extensions. Inside, more timber framing and the original roof structure are visible.
