Description
Woodpeckers, formerly known as Ethelstone Cottage, is a 17th-century building that may incorporate earlier elements. It stands two storeys tall and is constructed of colour washed coursed rubble. The roof is thatched, hipped, and sweeps down towards Burts Lane. The ground floor features three modern leaded casement windows, with the central one located in what was previously a doorway. On the first floor, there are two leaded casements above a central stack.
At the rear, there is a one-storey and attic wing, also made of colour washed rubble, with an ammonite inset at the back. This wing has a thatched roof with a half hipped gable and a three-light casement window on the first floor. There are three small windows on the ground floor, two of which have leaded glazing. Inside, the rear wing contains three trusses that may represent the upper parts of late crucks.
