Description

The Congregational Church, built in 1840 and designed by Fenton, is located in Quoiting Square. It has its origins dating back to 1693. This building features a two-storey Greek Revival front with three bays. It is constructed of yellow stock brick, which is divided by shallow piers. A stone string course runs at the first-floor cill level, topped by a stone cornice and a pediment with louvres that are battered at the sides in the tympanum. The outer bays contain two tall windows with stone surrounds, pilasters, and cornices. Above the double six-panel door, there is a similar three-light central window, which is framed by a stone surround featuring pairs of Doric pilasters and an entablature. The entrance is approached by six stone steps.
